The History of Capricciosa
The founder of Capricciosa - Masaaki Honda was fascinated by the culture and food of Italy and he travelled across the vast oceans to Italy in 1962 to pursue his own dream
of becoming the best Chef in Italian cuisine. Upon arrival, there were hardly any Japanese chefs in Italy during that period. Honda attended the prestigious National Culinary Academy of Italy, honing his skills with a burning passion and relentless effort, he won numerous awards in prestigious contests around Europe. Receiving recognition by the Italian government, he became a culinary ambassador as a chef at the Italian Pavilion Café at the World Expo held in Osaka, Japan in March of 1970, and after a year of serving this distinguished role, he went back to Japan. Upon returning home, Honda fulfilled his dream in demonstrating his creative talent through numerous Italian restaurants in Japan which he worked at.
In the spring time of 1978 when Honda was 34 years old, he opened his first Italian restaurant - a 213 square feet restaurant in the outskirts of Shibuya, Tokyo. This tiny store of 16 seats became the flagship of Capricciosa!
